Mentors

Although our team is primarily headed by students, mentors play a large role in our progress.

Lonny Weissman

Lonny Weissman has been a long-time mentor for the team. Lonny is a retired math teacher from Pioneer High School. He has been involved with the team since 2003, and In 2008, Lonny won the Silicon Valley Regional Woodie Flowers Award from FIRST. Lonny was instrumental to bringing robotics classes to Pioneer High School as well as helping the team get off the ground.

Rahil Mehta

Rahil Mehta is a graduate of Pioneer High School Class of 2011, and participated in the robotics team all four years at Pioneer. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 2015, and currently works at Tesla. He is co-owner of MillAway Tools along with Eric Wach who is a Pioneer and Apes of Wrath Alumnus as well.

Daniel Sturman

Daniel Sturman, who currently works at Cepheid as a Mechanical Engineer, discovered FIRST from college friends who experienced the program. From this, he was inspired to reach out and become a volunteer at Pioneer. In the four seasons he has been with us, he has already guided the mechanical design and fabrication subteams with his knowledge in machine design and factory automation. In his free time he shows his love for building things through pottery and welding. In addition, he also likes to bike and hike.

Matthew vezien

Matthew is an Alumni for Team 668 and has been mentoring our team since recently and will keep on mentoring in the coming years.

Suneet Luniya

Suneet Luniya, who works at KLA, one of our main sponsors, found our team through a KLA event last year. He uses his experience as a Sr. Software Manager and experience from mentoring Team 213 to support our software and controls subteams. In his free time, he likes to tinker with sensors, actuators, and all kinds of gadgets. He is an avid follower of MAKE and FIRST Robotics.

Curtis Stokes

Curtis Stokes is an invested mentor and has two children that have been on the team. He advises with business decisions with his experience as a commodity manager at Google, providing valuable input and general resources required to run the team.
